Local fauna and big kids playing on the local dunes

first time we've seen this type of...pigeon?
rainbow parakeets don't like chips, we hear bread w honey is the go

they say the bigger the plume on your head, the bigger...

good finish to a solid day

first you have to prepare the dune...

...then get yourself down the face...

then stick the landing!

Hike to the top of Barrenjoey Head lighthouse

start of the trail

Whale beach to the left, northern harbor to the right

Barrenjoey Head lighthouse
It was a gorgeous winter day with no surf, so we headed out to the tip of the northern beaches. Just a quick 20 minutes to the top, views in every direction.

random DY surf pics

DY point, dredging in front of the rocks as usual
saw Toby Martin (former CT surfer) out here yesterday

cutback?

looks like just enough room for a top turn or closeout

The Spit to Manly walk

The Spit Bridge...gotta drive that to get to the city, and you're really bummed if you happen upon it being opened for a sailboat...ugh.

Costa Rica or Sydney?

more shots of the part of the walk that was sub-tropical rainforest. there are forests of ferns...unexpected and very cool

waterfall

rock cave

boats, boats and more boats. it was another gorgeous sunny winter day, notice the short sleeves...reminds us of SD

check out the chompers on this ant!

in the background is Manly...bay side in front, surf side in back

creepy crawly

rainbow parakeet, there's thousands that come down to the trees lining our beach at dusk. they're LOUD!

you know you're hungry when you climb aboard your food source

the castle in Manly, which I think has been turned into a primary school. i'd guess it's not cheap to get your kids in there.

Newcastle and Hunter Valley, NSW June 2009

Gotta stay connected
Had our picnic lunch at this winery...cheese, salami, bread and wine...always a great lunch!

Koala crossing!

The Newcastle Dunes

off-roading towards the Dunes

it's no Toyota Tundra CrewMax Limited TRD 4x4 (which finally sold the other day, thanks pops!)...but it's been good to us thus far

To the Dunes! wait, did that say we need an off-road permit sticker?

on the road again

was that one surfable?
